“Cello-driven High Sierra bluegrass” is heading to both ends of Lake Tahoe this weekend.
Mammoth Lakes’ Sweetwater String Band plays The Divided Sky in Meyers on Saturday and the Fat Cat Bar and Grill in Tahoe City on Sunday.
The band consists of Patrick Ferguson (bass), Dave Huebner (cello), Jeff Meadway (guitar) and Scott Roberts (mandolin) and was formed in 2008.
“Sweetwater String Band proceeded to perform every Wednesday night (at night) at our local bar, The Tap, for months,” according to the band’s website. “That year we threw a New Years Party that was over capacity and a Mardi Gras party over capacity, and that sort of crazed, shoulder to shoulder popularity has stuck with us over the years, even when we returned after a long absence to the confines of The Tap this past spring, we found ourselves once again amidst an over-capacity crowd, only now, some of our fans had to hire baby sitters!
“We have enough material for a new album, and there’s rumors of a banjo player…We aren’t full time on the road, but we’re full time into music, and when we show up you’ll have a hard time not dancing your brains out and having perhaps a bit too much to drink…Careful though, there’s sugar in the water…”
