High winds force fireworks cancellation tonight; to resume Monday at 8:30
August 31, 2008
Tonight’s fireworks display, Labor Day Fireworks Extravaganza on the Lake, has been postponed until Monday evening because of high winds, officials said today.
With wind speeds between 25 and 35 mph, and gusts up to 70 mph on mountain ridges, the fireworks show would have been too risky to pull off tonight, said Sue Barton, deputy director of the LTVA.
“We have been working on this all morning with the hope that conditions would improve, but unfortunately they got worse,” Barton said.
