Highway 88 corridor meeting tonight
How to manage a section of scenic highway that rolls over Carson Pass will be discussed at a public workshop tonight in Markleeville.
The workshop will focus on goals and specific transportation issues for 52 miles of Highway 88. It will be the third workshop conducted to discuss the area, which sits between Woodfords and Pioneer.
Comments made at tonight’s workshop will be incorporated into a corridor management plan being drafted by the U.S. Forest Service. The plan would allow the Forest Service to apply for federal status as the Carson Pass National Scenic Highway 88.
The classification would create opportunities to fund highway improvement projects with federal grant money, such as the installation of interpretive signs related to the Immigrant Trail, said Alexandra Botello, project manager for the Forest Service.
The meeting is at Turtle Rock Park from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For more information, contact Steve Hale at the Carson Ranger District at (775) 884-8112 or Botello at (209) 532-3671 ext. 388.
