Historical society sponsors presentation on Fremont’s climb

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A modern version of John C. Fremont’s second expedition over the Sierra will be presented by Minden explorer/historian Peter Lathrop and author Bob Graham at 7 p.m. Sept. 20.

Having hiked and photographed the trail near Bridgeport to Highway 50, Lathrop and others have been able to reconstruct the historical crossing taken by Fremont, Kit Carson, cartographer Charles Preuss and their party in the dead of winter 1844. Graham,, author of “The Crossing,” will also speak at the Lake Tahoe Historical Society event.

Historical Society members, guests and friends are invited to the program at Camp Richardson’s Great Room at 1900 Jameson Beach Road in South Lake Tahoe. Free refreshments will be provided.
