Hit-and-run injures cyclist
A South Lake Tahoe man suffered a back fracture Tuesday night when he was struck by a car while riding his bike on Ski Run Boulevard.
Timothy Craig Blaha, 40, was transported by Care Flight to Washoe Medical Center in critical condition with back and other injuries. On Wednesday afternoon Blaha was listed in serious but stable condition.
According to the South Lake Tahoe police report, around 8:50 p.m. a driver northbound on Ski Run Boulevard struck a parked car and then continued on hitting Blaha, who was riding on the edge of the road. The driver didn’t stop to help Blaha and fled east on U.S. Highway 50 toward Stateline.
Police said a search for the car was made of the neighboring areas. A vehicle matching witnesses’ descriptions was found in a residential area within a mile of the accident scene, police said. Pieces of the car found at the collision linked the vehicle to the hit and run, investigators said.
Police said Sergio Fonseca-Ortiz, 21, was identified as the driver and he was arrested on suspicion of committing a felony hit and run, and driving under the influence of alcohol. Fonseca-Ortiz wasn’t injured, police said.
