Hit and run victim taken to hospital

An unidentified man was cut out of his vehicle Monday afternoon after a hit-and-run driver struck him, rolling his vehicle three times.

According to witnesses, the man was eastbound on U.S. Highway 50 when a driver traveling north on Lodi Avenue ran the stop sign and hit the right rear side of the victim’s Ford Explorer.

South Lake Tahoe Police said witnesses to the accident followed the suspect vehicle to Carrows’ parking lot. The driver left his car and attempted to escape into the woods behind the restaurant.

“Three citizens did an excellent job detaining him until police arrived,” said Sgt. Alex Schumacher.

John Carl Fogo, 41, was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and booked into the El Dorado County Jail.
