Hockey tournament begins Friday at ice arena

The puck drops on a four-day youth hockey tournament Friday in South Lake Tahoe.

The South Tahoe Amateur Hockey Association is serving as hosts to the sixth annual Lake Tahoe Invitational, which will feature three divisions and teams from as far away as San Diego.

South Lake Tahoe will field teams for each of the divisions, which include mites (ages 8 and younger), squirts (9-10) and peewees (11-12).

Game starts range from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 6 a.m. through 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena. Monday’s championship games are scheduled for 6 a.m. (mites), 7:30 a.m. (squirts) and 9 a.m. (peewees).

Lake Tahoe’s entries, the Tahoe Grizzlies, will appear in each of the first three games against San Diego on Friday. The mites play at 9 am., followed by squirts at 10:30 a.m. and peewees at noon.

Spectators will be admitted for free.
