Holiday parade on Highway 50 Saturday

Staff report

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A holiday parade with about 20 floats will shut down Highway 50 between Grovery Outlet and the American Legion Saturday morning.

Though the city hosted a bike parade before the Amgen Tour of California earlier this year as well as a homecoming parade each year, larger parades in South Lake Tahoe are few and far between, said Steve Rozier, who’s organizing the parade with the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce.

“It’s been like 40 years since there was a a parade in South Lake Tahoe,” Rozier said.

This year will be the first year for the parade, which Rozier hopes will become an annual event.

“Were building a signature event, not just for the locals but the visitors who come here as well,” Rozier said.
