Homecoming at South Tahoe High
Homecoming 2006 will take place the weekend of Sept. 29 and 30 for students and alumni of South Tahoe High School.
A new feature, destined to become an annual event, is the Viking Luncheon for alumni whose graduation date is 50 years or more – this year it will include classes of 1953 through 1956. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 29. at Margie Daum’s home. Information and reservations may be made with Carolyn Wolfe at (775) 588-6534 or by e-mail at CWATAHOE@aol.com. The cost is $20 per person.
Friday afternoon is the annual meeting of the South Tahoe High School Alumni Council. It will be held in the school library at 3:30 p.m. following the unveiling of the Wall of Honor and reception hosted by the school Culinary Arts Department. The Wall of Honor is a joint project of the Alumni Council, the Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation and the Associated Student Body.
The council agenda is to review the success of past fundraisers such as Alumni Lane and the donation of the LED boards affixed to the newly remodeled theater. Plans will be recommended for the future such as the sale of the theater seats and additional signage for the high school. Reunion projects will also be discussed.
At 9:45 a.m. Saturday the annual Homecoming Parade will head off from the South Tahoe Middle School to follow Highway 50 to the high school. The Class of 1956, celebrating their 50th anniversary of graduation, will lead the parade followed by inductees for the Wall of Honor, school dignitaries, class queen and princess candidates, and an entertaining variety of cars and trucks holding alumni and school classes, ending with the Big Yellow School Bus with future alumni.
Following arrival at the football field, alumni will be treated to breakfast hosted by the STHS Booster Club and then entertained by a special program in the newly remodeled theater with musical numbers by school instrumental and vocal groups. The Wall of Honor inductees will be introduced with individual montages of their careers by Leona Allen, alumni chair for the program.
The homecoming football games follow and the day’s activities conclude with an alumni barbecue at Tahoe Keys beginning at 4 p.m. Information and tickets may be obtained from Susie Raby at (530) 544-8197 or via e-mail at email@example.com.
The class of 1966 will hold its 40th reunion following the barbecue and the class of 1976 will have an hors d’ouvres reception earlier that evening to celebrate their 30th reunion.
