Hope Valley Fire grows to 100 acres

Staff and wire reports

Fire crews are fighting a wildfire that broke out Sunday afternoon in Alpine County south of Lake Tahoe.

A dispatcher for the Sierra Front Interagency Fire Dispatch Center in Minden says the now 100-acre blaze is making runs in heavy timber.

The dispatcher says the fire broke out close to the Burnside Mine near the intersection of highways 88 and 89 in Hope Valley at Blue Lakes Road.

He says plans call for air tankers and helicopters to respond to the fire as part of an all-out attack.

No lightning was reported today, and a fire investigator is en route to the scene.

No homes were believed to be immediately threatened, but the dispatcher says a nearby campground may have to be evacuated.
