Horsetail victim’s body still hasn’t been found
The body of a 24-year-old Carmichael, Calif., woman who fell to her death July 1 at Horsetail Falls has still not been recovered.
While El Dorado County Search and Rescue is not actively searching the turbulent Pyramid Creek until the water subsides, a search team makes regular rounds along the rocky banks, said Terry Fleck, El Dorado County deputy sheriff and search and rescue coordinator.
The victim is Mary “Grace” Miller.
Miller was hiking with her husband and went wading in the water when she was caught up in the current and went over the falls, north of Strawberry on Highway 50.
The woman was trying to take a photograph of the view as rushing water swept her off her feet and carried her downstream over the falls, officials said.
The accident was witnessed by several people.
Authorities, who have ruled the death accidental, believe Miller’s body is wedged between rocks at the bottom of the falls.
