Hot-shooting Smith Valley beats Whittell

Whittell High has probably seen enough of the Smith Valley boys’ basketball team for the season.

The Bulldogs poured in seven three-point shots in the first half on Saturday to beat the Warriors 67-47 on the final day of the Dayton tournament. It was Smith Valley’s second victory over the Warriors in five days.

Jordan Fletcher was the main thorn in the Warriors’ side as he scored a game-high 33 points. Whittell closed to within seven points in the third quarter before the hot-shooting Bulldogs pulled away.

The Warriors were led by junior Blake Werle, who scored 12 points. The balanced Whittell attack also saw Alex Potnick score nine points, John Robinson eight points and Cody Nelson and Alex Vogt seven apiece. Vogt also made five steals.

Whittell (1-4) played at Yerington on Tuesday night.
