Hot tub salesman arrested

Todd Surgeon of Leisure Vision of Tahoe City, a spa and hot tub company, was arrested Friday after turning himself in under the advice of his attorney.

After having his Washoe County business license revoked in June, being accused of racketeering in Oregon and of bilking others in Las Vegas, Judge Robert G. Vonasek set Surgeon’s bail at $500,000.

Surgeon had not made bail as of Wednesday according to the Placer County jail in Auburn.

“Normally the bail amount for that charge (embezzlement) is $2,500,” said Detective Sgt. Jeff Granum of the Placer County Sheriff’s Department.

Surgeon first came to the attention of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office when he tried to start a business in Tahoe City after his business license was revoked in Washoe County.

Surgeon’s history was taken into account when setting his bail.

According to Washoe County Sheriff’s Detective Candis Potts, close to 15 cases have been filed in the county against Surgeon valued between $50,000 and $60,000.

According to Granum four people have filed reports in Placer County against Surgeon claiming they never received the spa they bought.

One victim from Tahoe City, Robert Wilhelmy, bought a spa from Surgeon and never received it.

Wilhelmy later won a judgment against Surgeon and finally received his spa only later finding out the spa belonged to someone else.
