In the Carson Valley: Crash kills one, injures three
An accident on Highway 395 at Ray May Way south of Gardnerville killed one person and sent three others to the hospital.
The accident occurred at 2:37 p.m. when a woman driving a 1991 GMC sport utility vehicle south tried to pass a commercial vehicle in the no passing zone, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Trooper Chuck Allen said the woman pulled out into the path of a northbound 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee containing two people and six dogs.
The male passenger in the Cherokee was killed along with four of the dogs.
The driver of the Jeep, a female, and the other female driver were both flown by Care Flight Helicopter to Renown Medical Center in Reno for very serious injuries. The other 2 dogs appeared to be doing fine at the crash site.
The accident blocked both directions of travel for just over 2 hours while troopers and other public safety personnel investigated and diagrammed the scene.
Allen said two flatbed trucks were called to the scene of the accident to move the vehicles out of the roadway, which was reopened just before 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Lake Tahoe resort security guards rescue man from drowning
STATELINE, Nev. — A California man who almost drowned at a Lake Tahoe resort on Monday night has been discharged from the hospital, local emergency management officials said.
