Holiday spirit continues its uphill climb with this weekend’s all-out bash: The inaugural Holiday Mall Crawl held in The Crossing at Tahoe Valley.

The area, formerly known as the Factory Stores at the Y, will be home to a mix of classic holiday traditions — including reindeer scavenger hunts, ice sculptures, caroling, a makers market and, of course, a visit from Santa Claus — on Saturday, Dec. 9.

In contrast to past Crossing events, held primarily in the patio next to Lake Tahoe AleWorX, the Holiday Mall Crawl is hosted at businesses throughout the center — and has thus been given the moniker #CrossingCollaboration.

“The premise of what we’re trying to do is create excitement around The Crossing as one unit,” said AleWorX founder Luca Genasci. “Part of the attraction of being a shopping center as opposed to a stand-alone building is getting the momentum and camaraderie of a whole bunch of businesses — we’re not just promoting for ourselves, but also Sierra-at-Tahoe, OMNI, Elevate [Wellness] and Verde [Mexican Rotisserie].”

Beginning at 11 a.m., each participating business will open its doors for holiday fun fit for the entire family — whether it be lunch specials, discounts on merchandise, or something to get you in the Christmas spirit: Santa himself will make an appearance at Verde from noon through 4 p.m.

Attendees also can expect booths from roughly six local vendors and artisans.

“Blue Granite — the new climbing gym — Tahoe Heartbeat and others with local crafts will all be there. OMNI has other vendors coming in as well,” said Mike Peron, co-founder of South Lake Tahoe-based production company FNCTN.

In true Tahoe tradition, the city of South Lake Tahoe’s holiday-themed fire truck — lit in full color — will be on-site passing out candy canes.

AleWorX will host cookie and gingerbread house decorating from 2-5 p.m., and at approximately 4:45 p.m. a Christmas tree lighting will take place in the patio adjacent to the business.

The weekly Sierra Cinemas series (hosted by Lake Tahoe AleWorX and FNCTN) tops off the day of winter festivities with two film screenings: New Line Cinema’s holiday hit “Elf” and Faction Skis’ “This Is Home.”

“It’s a lot to take in — [the Mall Crawl] lasts from about 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.,” Peron said. “We’re also giving away a pair of skis that night during our Pennies for Pups initiative: Guess how many pennies are on the oven at AleWorX for $2 and you can either win a pair of Faction skis or go into a drawing for a Sierra-at-Tahoe pass.

“Every dollar goes back to the Sierra Avalanche Dogs.”

Whether you want to take advantage of deals for holiday shopping, the opportunity to get a photo with Santa or watch winter movies under the stars with the community, the first-ever Mall Crawl is something you won’t want to miss.
