On Saturday, January 25, deputies responded to a call about “trouble unknown” at a residence. They arrived to conduct a safety sweep and discovered a deceased adult female, later identified by the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office as Susan Powell, and her death ruled a homicide by stabbing.

Detectives soon identified Powell as the primary suspect in her death, and the Incline Village-Crystal Township Justice Court issued an arrest warrant for him. Following a high-speed chase through multiple counties, Powell was apprehended on Nevada Highway 338 and initially placed in custody at the Lyon County Detention Facility.

In addition to Washoe County deputies, agencies including the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada State Police, Mono County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol assisted in bringing Powell into custody. Powell is being held without bail, and the relationship between the two has not yet been disclosed.
