Infant mauled to death

KINGS BEACH — A 2-week-old infant was killed Wednesday by the family’s dog, Placer County authorities said.

Placer County sheriff’s deputies and North Lake Tahoe firefighters arrived at the Kings Beach home about noon. CPR was performed, but the infant was soon pronounced dead from what appeared to be numerous traumatic injuries, Placer County sheriff’s Capt. Rick Armstrong said.

The dog, a large 85- to 100-pound mixed-breed husky, has been placed in quarantine by the Placer County Animal Control.

Detectives from the Placer County Sheriff’s Department are conducting an investigation into the death of the infant.
