Ink Out Loud: It’s only rock ’n’ roll, but I like it

At 8 p.m. on Wednesday the crowd rushed the entrances in a manner something akin to a Rolling Stones stadium show.

It’s not simply a new hotel and casino on the South Shore — the Hard Rock is a museum featuring gritty, glitzy, glam, grunge, folk, funk, punk, raw, reggae, emo, screamo, techno, mild and metal — music mementos.

The Kings of Rock, Pop, and Punk are represented as Elvis Presley, Joey Ramone and Michael Jackson displays are in the same hallway.

As wicked cool as it was to see Angus Young’s tiny velvet suit up close, it was equally awesome that each of the employees proudly displayed the names of their favorite artists or bands on their nametags.

I spoke with Toni who works in Fuel, the coffee shop. She is a South Lake Tahoe native, a proud mom, and a Beyonce fan. She was genuinely pleasant and will likely contribute greatly to the diamond designation the company is striving for.

The room numbers are set on wall mounts that look like guitar picks.

The big guitar sculpture out front created by a local artist, is surrounded by chunks of recycled windshield glass molded to look like ice — like a reflection of this eco-conscious area.

The guitar’s strings made from barbed wire honor the roots of the Parks and their family’s ranching heritage.

I have never successfully mastered playing any musical instrument, but I do play a mean radio, iPod and CD player. I am also a Clifford C. Clavin of rock trivia.

I know … it’s only rock ’n’ roll, but I like it.
