Interstate 580 solo-vehicle crash claims life

WASHOE COUNTY — Monday afternoon at 2:34 p.m., Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to a single-vehicle car crash that occurred on Interstate 580 southbound approximately two miles north of Bowers Mansion in Washoe County.

The crash investigation details learned so far indicate for unknown reasons a 2007 Silver KIA Rio driven by Dorothy S. Hunter,95, of Gardnerville. NV, left the roadway and struck the concrete wall on the left shoulder and bounced off and went across all southbound travel lanes and struck the concrete wall on the right with its front.

The vehicle came to rest in two left lanes of southbound I580.Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing her seatbelt. Speed, alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in the incident. No other vehicles were believed to be involved.



There are three lanes in both the north and south travel lanes. The speed limit in this area is posted as 70 mph.
