It’s a string thing

Dan Thrift / Tahoe Daily Tribune/ Students who will present the Spring String Fling today at South Tahoe High School rehearse under the direction of JJ Clause.

One hundred string musicians will perform in their annual concert, the Spring String Fling, at 7 tonight at the South Tahoe High School Theater.

This year the concert will feature violin, viola, cello and string bass students from 8 to 18 years of age.

The concert showcases the efforts of the South Tahoe High School string orchestra, South Tahoe Middle School string orchestra, Lake Tahoe Unified School District elementary honor orchestra, Robinson Violin School students and invited string players from the Carson Valley. A variety of music from classical to Irish gigues and jazz will be performed.

This is the seventh annual performance of the community’s string players coordinated by LTUSD string orchestra instructor Candace Robinson. She will be assisted by music instructors JJ Clause and Linda Kurek.

The concert is $5 general admission, $3 for seniors and free for children under 18. A violin will be raffled off at intermission with tickets being sold for $1 each. All proceeds will go toward the LTUSD string program to purchase new instruments.
