It’s official – Thomas in as Caesars G.M.
Mel Thomas has been officially named by Caesars World, Inc. as Caesars Tahoe’s new executive vice president and general manager.
Thomas, who is replacing David Attaway at the top of the Tahoe casino, is expected to be working at the casino within weeks, according to his secretary.
Thomas was most recently vice president and general manager of the company’s Sheraton Casinos Nova Scotia, but is not a newcomer to the Tahoe area.
In 1972, Thomas took a job as a craps dealer at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, where he worked for 12 years. After eight more years at Harvey’s Resort Hotel/Casino where he held various executive positions, Thomas joined Summit Casinos International as vice president of Nevada gaming operations.
Thomas joined ITT Corporation’s gaming organization in 1994 as director of casino operations for a riverboat in Tunica, Miss, which led to his appointment in Nova Scotia.
“I’m thrilled to be back in Tahoe,” said Thomas, who enjoys cycling and water sports. “I was always a little homesick. I’ve always considered Lake Tahoe to be home.”
A graduate of University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif., Thomas is married and has one daughter.
