At his request no services will be conducted for James Dahlke Smith, who died July 11, 2004, at Walnut Creek, Calif. He was 71.

James was born March 16, 1933, at Oakland, Calif., and was a 15-year resident of South Lake Tahoe. He was the owner and operator of Dahlke’s, a restaurant and bar the family owned since 1904. He retired in 1980. He served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from Armstrong Business College. James was an avid hunter and was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the California Water Foul Association.

He is survived by his children, Jenise Gaskin and James D. Smith Jr.; grandchildren, Kyle A. Gaskin, Lauren M. Gaskin, Jenna J. Smith and Scott D. Smith; and sister, Judy Christopher.

Memorial donations in his name may be made to a charity of choice.

Arrangements are by Hull’s Walnut Creek Chapel, Walnut Creek, Calif.
