John Jorgenson Quintet to perform at Duke Theatre

The Lake Tahoe Community College Performing Arts League will present the John Jorgenson Quintet in concert on Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Duke Theatre.

The John Jorgenson Quintet features guitarist John Jorgenson, a founding member of the Desert Rose Band, the Hellecasters, and a six-year member of Elton John’s band. He has worked with artists ranging from Barbra Streisand and Bonnie Raitt to Earl Scruggs.

Because of his international reputation as a gypsy jazz player, Jorgenson was twice asked to recreate Django Reinhardt’s music for feature films, including “Gattica” and “Head in The Clouds.” The latter, released in early 2005 and starring Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz, features Jorgenson on camera as Django Reinhardt, complete with burned hand and gypsy mustache.

The group includes Dutch bassist Simon Planting, British rhythm guitarist Kevin Nolan, jazz violinist Jason Anick and veteran percussionist Rick Reed.

Tickets are $15 at the door, $12 in advance online and at the college bookstore beginning Jan. 18. Children 10 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.

For tickets and information, visit, or call (530) 541-4660, ext. 512.
