John O. Hurzel


John Otto Hurzel, 76, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family Oct. 21, 2007.

John was born in Dinuba, Calif., raised in the San Francisco area, and moved to Carson City, Nev., 25 years ago. He was self-employed as a baker for more than 50 years. Since his move to Carson City, he worked with Grandma Hattie’s restaurant. John touched the lives of all those who knew him. He was a kind-hearted man who loved his family, appreciated his friends, and opened his heart to countless people in need.

He is survived by his wife, Hattie; children, Karen Stiver and Rick and John Hurzel; son-in-law, Rick Stiver; daughters-in-law, Melinda Frost-Hurzel and Linda Hurzel; grandchildren, Joe and Jeff Hurzel, Jaime and Bryan Hurzel, Jonathan and Christopher Silva and Teran Hurzel.

At John’s request, there will be no public service or memorial. Those wishing to make a donation to his favorite charity may do so. Make donations to The Kainos Home and Training Center, 3631 Jefferson Ave., Redwood City, CA.
