Junior Miss Lake Tahoe Scholarship Pageant on tap for weekend
The fourth annual Junior Miss Lake Tahoe Scholarship Pageant will take place at 2 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Church of Latter-day Saints, Spruce and Herbert avenues. Advance tickets are required for this event and can be arranged by calling (530) 577-4603. Three grade categories — Elementary, Junior High and High School — each will be represented and each division will receive a title. The young ladies will compete in interview, physical fitness, talent and party dress. All contestants will be awarded a scholarship bond and the winners receive scholarship bonds along with their crown.
Five young ladies will compete in the Elementary Division. Riana Cerceo, a 10-year-old from Zephyr Cove Elementary School will dance as her talent; Alexis Chaucer, an 8-year-old from Meyers Elementary will present a song; Ashley Furno, 9, will do a tumbling routine; Emily Belt, 9, a Meyers Elementary student, will perform a song and dance routine; and Lindsay Martin, 11, of St. Theresa School will sing.
Nine young ladies represent the Junior High Division. Janell Contaxis, a 13-year-old student at South Tahoe Middle School, will demonstrate Tae Kwon Do; Fellow STMS student, 12-year-old Kristy Morrow, will play the violin for her talent; Sarah Ehrler, 11, a student at Kingsbury Middle School, will entertain with a monologue; Jessica Winberg, 12, a STMS student, will recite a poem; Stevie Scott, 11, of STMS, will perform a song and dance; Helen Burkart, a 13-year-old student at St. Theresa School, will play the piano; Kimberlee Kolesnik, 12, a student at KMS, will present a dance routine; 12-year-old Milana Mason of Sage Ridge School, will perform a monologue; and Sarah Anderson, 13, of STMS, will perform a dance.
The High School Division is the largest with 10 contestants. South Tahoe High School students 15-year-old Kristen Heller will play the clarinet and 15-year-old Danielle Vickers will present a song. Brittany Schroeder, 15, a Visions of Education student, will entertain with a ballet dance. STHS student, 16-year-old Lily Tam will perform a vocal talent and classmate Bailey Erickson, 16, will entertain with a dance routine. South Tahoe High School students Denise Wagner, 16, will present a song and dance routine; Rebecca Brand, 16, will dance for her presentation; 15-year-old Tresa Bell will sing and play the guitar; and 16-year-old Eleni Monos will perform a dramatic monologue. George Whittell High School student Elise Ehrler, 16, will conclude the talent presentation with a vocal piece.
Katy Stovall, the current Miss Lake Tahoe California, and Teresa Benitez, the current Miss Nevada will share in co-hosting the pageant. All titles and crowns will be awarded on stage at Harrah’s Jan. 19 during the Miss Lake Tahoe pageant.
