Jury to be picked for Reno Walmart shooting trial
October 25, 2011
RENO, Nev. (AP) – Jury selection is due to start Reno for the trial of a former employee accused of opening fire inside a Walmart store, wounding three supervisors almost a year ago.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Monday (http://on.rgj.com/ndsjna ) that opening arguments will begin for the trial of John Gillane once a Washoe County District Court jury is seated.
Gillane pleaded not guilty in January to charges including attempted murder, assault and battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial harm.
The three wounded managers survived the Oct. 29 attack.
Gillane eventually surrendered to police after talking with an officer who responded weeks earlier to Gillane’s Reno motel room because he was suicidal.
Gillane told investigators he hid in the employee bathroom the day of the shooting while managers were in a routine meeting.
