Justice O’Connor coming to Cowboy Poetry Gathering
ELKO – Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor has agreed to be the keynote speaker at the 25th annual National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko next January.
O’Connor, the first female justice on the nation’s highest court, was raised on a ranch in Arizona. She wrote a book with her brother, Alan H. Day, titled “Lazy B: Growing Up on a Cattle Ranch in the American Southwest.”
Officials for the Western Folklife Center, which is sponsoring the event, say 51 poets and 20 musicians are scheduled to perform at the gathering running Jan. 24-31.
