Keep snowmobiles off low areas

Tribune Staff Reports

It looks like diminished snowpack will bring this year’s snowmobiling season to an early end, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

A light winter and unseasonably warm weather has left many areas on the Carson Ranger district with insufficient snow to support traditional spring snowmobiling opportunities.

Some areas across the district are already closed and Carson District Ranger Gary Schiff advises people to use extreme caution if they choose to ride in areas still open.

“Protect the natural resources by avoiding riding in low snow areas or any area where vegetation is exposed or bare ground exists,” he said in a written statement.
