Kidnapping victim released unharmed

A man was kidnapped early Tuesday carrying a bucket of quarters from Harveys Resort & Casino back to his room at the Best West Inn on Laurel Avenue, South Lake Tahoe police said.

Emigdio Soto, 52, of Stockton, Calif., was walking back to his motel around 1 a.m. when two men stopped him. One of the men came from behind him and put a sharp object to his back forcing him into a car.

The group drove west in a black Ford Escort on U.S. Highway 50 until they reached a cash machine. The men tried to access Soto’s account with his bank card, but he told them he had never used it before and had no money in it.

The men threatened Soto saying they would “throw him in the river” if he didn’t give them money. After several hours, they drove Soto back to the Stateline area. The men agreed to let Soto go free after they stole his green card, bank card and $20 in quarters.

Soto reported the crime at 3:34 a.m. He described one suspect as a black man, 6 feet, 1 inch tall, 180 pounds with black hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans. The other suspect was a Hispanic man with black hair, Soto said.

Anyone with information the crime is asked to call Secret Witness at (530) 541-6800.
