Kinder Kup race scheduled at Heavenly

On Jan. 27 participants ages 6 and younger from all around the Tahoe Basin came to compete in the first Kinder Kup Race Series. Heavenly Ski Foundation hosted the event that took place on World Cup run at Heavenly Ski Resort and drew approximately 30 racers.

Each athlete was given the opportunity to take practice runs down the course before racing two timed runs. The times were then combined to determine placing. All racers received participant medals, which many proudly wore for the rest of the day. The athletes could be seen having fun, whether it was racing down the course and receiving their medal or playing with the other racers.

The Heavenly Ski Foundation plans to host the next two races of the Kinder Kup Race Series on Feb. 17 and March 10, to which they hope to draw even more racers. A raffle and barbecue will take place in between race runs and immediately following the race. The cost is $15 per race and athletes can preregister at the Heavenly Ski Foundation building or call (530) 541-7354. Late registration will be open from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. the morning of the race. The first run is at 10 a.m., and everyone is encouraged to come out and cheer on the young racers.
