Kindergarten registration begins for local schools

Kindergarten registration for children who will be 5 years old before or on Dec. 2, 2010 will be held May 10 to 14 for all Lake Tahoe Unified School District elementary schools.

St. Theresa School is also hosting a “kindergarten summit” 6 p.m. today at the school, 1081 Lyons Ave. Learn about student learning expectations, curriculum guidelines, extra curricular activities and test scores.

To register for Lake Tahoe Unified, state law requires proof of California residency, the child’s birth certificate, and proof of immunization including Varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B and the last booster shot. Children also need a health examination with a family doctor or El Dorado County Health Department at (530) 573-3155, and an oral health examination or signed waiver.

Call the elementary school for an appointment to pre-register. Bijou Community School is at (530) 543-2337; Sierra House Elementary is at (530) 543-2327; Tahoe Valley Elementary is at (530) 543-2350; the Environmental Science Magnet School is at (530) 543-2371.
