Kiwanis awards STHS seniors scholarships

The Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe gave $29,500 in scholarships to graduating South Tahoe High School seniors interested in higher education, either college or trade school. Scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 went to 19 students. Key Club members, the high school section of Kiwanis International, received the higher increments this year.

Most of the money was provided by Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe past member Bob Baunhausser, who loved to read and loved children. He died in December 1999 from complications of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. When he died he left his entire estate to the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe for the sole purpose of giving the interest income of the estate to the children of this community.

The 2001 South Lake Tahoe High School recipients of the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe Bob Baunhausser Foundation are:

Desiree Bera, Kimberly Burns, J.T. Davis, Jarrett Dunn, Lisa Hartzell, Kriste Kirkland, Manuel Lomeli, Amir Misaghi, Martina Pavelko, Tabitha Porter, Vanessa Porter, David Quandt, Brad Ross,, Cavin Ross, Carlos Romero, Graham St. Michel, Chris Stamey, Julie Tam, Jarred Uppendahl, Jerrad Xavier and Sidonie Xavier.
