KTHO Radio announces the launch of 96.1 FM

In October, IAS, Inc. announced the launch of KTHO 96.1 FM. Having served the Lake Tahoe Basin for 46 years as AM 590 KTHO, the station now simulcasts its format on both AM and FM with the addition of an FM translator. K-TAHOE is an affiliate of ABC News.

K-TAHOE radio’s format will be classic rock and news talk with an emphasis on local content.

Owner Darrell Wampler, a longtime Southern California broadcaster who worked for KROQ, brought together Lake Tahoe radio veterans Paul Middlebrook, Bill Kingman and Ed Crook to re-invent the station with a focus on the local community.

Under the new ownership of Darrell Wampler and IAS, Inc., which took over the station in March, the station has grown revenue steadily and added staff, as well as the new FM station.

“I am extremely proud of what we have been able to accomplish in spite of the current economic climate and hope to be the catalyst for community growth,” Wampler said.

To expand its listenership and offer Lake Tahoe businesses the opportunity to reach out-of-market customers, both the AM and FM stations stream live on http://www.kthoradio.com.
