Kudos and kindness

Tahoe Daily Tribune Staff Reports

To the editor:

To Brenda and Gary, The Hatch Co., Mt. Tallac Brewery and the countless other contributors and supporters of the May 9 “Jim Copél Fund-raiser,” we would like to say, “Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Your donations, time and friendship helped to remind us of what a wonderful and giving community we live in. When you say that we are family, we feel that we are family! We hope that each and every one of you knows that if the situation were reversed, we would be there for you as well.

Our deepest thanks to you and the next time we all get together, let’s just do it for the fun of it, shall we?

Farewell, Meyers Elementary

To the editor:

As I write this letter, my heart is filled with sadness. I am saddened by the fact that the community in which I have lived for the past 42 years could not rise up and support our schools, which is, and will in the long run, affect this community. This letter, though, is not about the politics. It’s about the people I have worked with, past and present, at Meyers Elementary.

First, I’d like to thank the staff and parents for all of your time spent volunteering – the hours of your own time to prepare and education our children. Unless you have been there to see what goes on, you can’t appreciate their efforts. They should be greatly applauded.

Second, I have been blessed to work with such wonderful and caring people. I’ve made a lot of relationships and good friends and I’m truly going to miss all of you. All of you have been a light in my life and we have made some great memories together. I have felt like we were family and I’ll always keep you in my heart. As they say, when one door closes, another opens – and I wish you all the best with whatever you do.

Third, I’ll miss the children. Their innocence and love cannot be replaced. On a bad day, they can brighten your life with just a smile, a hug, or maybe just the way they look at you. Your faces, I will miss!

Finally, I’d like to say farewell to a school that has taught so many along their path to the future. When I work at night, I walk through the rooms and the hallways and all is quiet, only to know the next day will be filled with laughter and smiles. I know the end is near for this old place and, one day, the next morning will be silent. With that, I feel great sadness and hope some day the sound of children will once again be heard.

Thank you all for such a wonderful experience. I’m proud to have known you and will miss you more than you know. Keep up the spirit and good luck to you all.
