ACT Business Fair was a success

To the editor:

The first ACT Summer Business Fair was held May 27 at Harveys Resort & Casino convention center. Forty local businesses had display tables showcasing their products and services and there were eight local restaurants serving samples of their fabulous menus. Attendance throughout the evening was estimated to be 400 people and there were plenty of great raffle and auction items. Thanks to the generosity of the community, the event raised more than $12,000, all of which goes directly to the animals.

Thank you to Harrah’s/Harveys for providing the convention center; Christina Robinette-Blowney at Entertainment Plus for the live music; Doug Midkiff, DJ for the event; Event Masters for the decorations, Fast Print for all the flyers and booklets; and all the local merchants who participated by exhibiting and donating raffles and auction items.

Special thanks to our dedicated group of volunteers who helped make this event such a success: Karen Estes, Maggi Powning, Chris Beatleton, Karen Lantz-Feith, Nicole Robbins, Diania Knowlton, Tammie and Steve Horowitz, Adrian Hoeflein, Mina Maufua and the entire CARE committee from Embassy Suites Resorts, Kerry Hawk and the Lake Tahoe Wedding & Honeymoon Association, Bruce Cable, Joe Zarachoff, Cheryl McLean, Doyle Harris, JoAnn Conner, Kim Copel, Kelly and Mike Johnson and Martina Knappes.

Thanks to the X Girls for handling the raffle. Thanks also to our friends who helped add to the ambiance by volunteering to spend the evening in costume – Nicole McPherson, Anthony McPherson, Jessica Springer, Michelle Lockwood and Tyler Corey.

Pleased with auto body repairs

To the editor:

I write this letter to commend Welcome’s Auto Body on a job well done. Rather than go into the entire story, for which I would need much more paper, I just want to say that I am not only impressed with the quality professionalism that Welcome’s has provided, but that my intentions are to tell everyone that I know how incredibly pleased I am.

Roy Testa and his manager, Willie, handled all of my issues in a timely fashion with complete consideration to what would be most convenient for me. Not only did I receive clear concise communication before, during and after the repairs, each and every situation was addressed with equal vigor and certainty that the problem would be solved.

Needless to say, all my prior frustrations with this automobile repair situation can only be matched by my complete satisfaction at the service Welcome’s has provided. As owner and representative of Welcome’s, Roy’s actions are commendable, his company appropriately reputable, and Willie an exemplary employee.

I would not hesitate to recommend them highly to anyone in need of auto body repair and furthermore, I am sending a similar letter to Allstate, who originally recommended Welcome’s and also to Roy, as I think he should be proud of his establishment and the people who work for him.

Thank you again Roy and thank you Willie for a job well done.

Community’s support thanked

To the editor:

Sierra Recovery Center wishes to thank and acknowledge everyone who has supported us, written letters and attended the planning and city council meetings.

Seeing our community come together gave us such hope for the future. This project has been ongoing for three years and we cannot possibly thank everyone. But, we would especially like to thank Gary Midkiff and Associates for pro bono work, Terry Anderson for guiding us through the real estate maze, Joe Wolfe and Deb Howard for being so patient, Gene Rasmussen for committing to our effort, the Tahoe Daily Tribune for its extensive coverage and everyone who has stepped forward to support Sierra Recovery Center and our services.

We will continue to need lots of support because now the work begins.

St. Theresa thanks Safeway

To the editor:

St. Theresa Catholic School’s eighth-grade class graduated June 4. Following the ceremony the school’s advisory board held a reception for the students and their families. At the reception all were treated to a wonderful cake and beautiful floral arrangements as centerpieces. All of these were donated by Safeway.

On behalf of the St. Theresa Catholic School advisory commission, I would like to thank some wonderful people who work at our local Safeway Supermarket. Manager Tom Nobriga, secretary Roni Bombino, and floral department manager Marion Ogletree helped make the graduation reception really special for our students and their families.

Thank you so much for your generous donations and your continued support of our school. We really appreciate all that you’ve done for us.

Sober graduation help appreciated

To the editor:

The Warrior Safe and Sober Graduation Committee for Whittell High School class of 2004 would like to thank the California State Automobile Association for its support of our gradnite celebration. They graciously donated to our entire senior class key chains with “Safe and sober gradnite ’04” plus an alcohol education film for the school.

Thanks to organizations like AAA, we are able to accomplish our task of providing a safe and sober celebration for our seniors.

Teen Court thanks Kiwanis

To the editor:

Teen Court would like to thank you for your contribution to our program. Throughout the year we have learned many skills that we will be able to use in our lives now and in the future. We are learning to be more open-minded and to listen to both sides of a story; we are learning how to defend our point and how to speak in front of a group of people; we are learning how the court system works and, most importantly, we are learning about ourselves.

Without the support of the Kiwanis this program could not be the success it is. Thank you again, for we truly appreciate the help and encouragement of the Kiwanis.

Supporting local organic farming

To the editor:

Great thanks to Nicole Zaborsky, Theresa Avance, Gerry Dion and Ron Weibel for their help getting the Natural Trading Company CSA off the ground. Without your help and willingness to step in and take charge none of us would have received our delicious organic veggies.

Supporting local organic farmers is a worthy and Earth friendly cause. Thanks for making it possible in South Lake Tahoe.
