Kudos and kindness

Tahoe Daily Tribune Staff Reports

To the editor:

The South Lake Tahoe chapter of the American Association of University Women would like to sincerely thank Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe for its generous grant to AAUW’s Tech Trek Science & Math Camp at Stanford. We are honored to be included among all the worthy recipients they have selected.

The grant will send one additional eighth-grade student to the week-long camp. The Tech Trek Camp provides encouragement to middle school girls to pursue studies in science, math and technology. Credentialed middle school teachers and hands-on experiments highlight the activities during the week-long camp.

Soroptimist International’s support to send an additional student to the Tech Trek Science & Math Camp illustrates their commitment to the community and to the education of our most precious resource – our youth.

Help with mom is appreciated

To the editor:

I would like to thank everyone for their time, prayers, love, cards, food, flowers and most of all for their caring, when my mom, Mildred Virgin, went to be with the Lord.

Thank you to Mo Leonard who sang so beautifully on Saturday, the Bill Tinlin family for the great food, not as good as Millie’s potato soup, but very, very good; Pastor Alan and wife Sharon for always being by my mother’s side; Dr. Gary Cooper for all his years of caring for my mother; Helen and Vicki at Barton Hospital, who touched my family’s life and my mother’s.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. May God bless you all.

A successful basketball season

To the editor:

Our 2003-04 Youth Basketball League has come to a close at Kahle Community Center and everyone here would like to thank all 47 of our basketball coaches and our 15 sponsors for another successful season.

Our Youth Basketball League has grown to about 300 players and without your commitment, support and contribution the children in our community would not have the opportunity to participate in this local basketball program. Thank you for your time and dedication and we look forward to seeing everyone next year for another great season.
