Sierra Recovery Center would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Bank of the West. They have provided us with a very generous monetary donation. Our treatment facilities and our transitional houses will benefit from their generosity at a time when some would otherwise go without.

Sierra Recovery Center is a private nonprofit chemical dependency rehabilitation facility. Donations from the community allow us to continue to provide services to persons who are struggling with the disease of addiction and/or alcoholism. Sierra Recovery Center strives to educate and provide opportunities that enhance the quality of life for individuals, families and the community affected by alcohol and other drug use.

Service is a benefit of shopping locally




To the editor:

Here is reason number one for shopping locally versus “off the hill.” Ever have a problem with a purchase and trying to talk face-to-face with the owner? I have a roofing and tree service company in Tahoe and I own several commercial trucks, all bought locally.

I have had an ongoing problem with my door sensors and contacted Ford directly due to the fact that my warranty had expired. Ford contacted me and informed me that there was nothing they could do without a warranty and suggested I take it to the local dealer. I explained to them I have had this very same problem during the entire course of owning the truck. Again, they were sorry – no warranty, no repair. I wanted not only a repair (which I was willing to pay for) but some of solution and or fix. Nothing.

Two days later I received a call from Dayton at South Shore Motors asking me to bring my truck in to get fixed. Apparently the owner, Zach, got a forward of my letter and conversation with Ford and immediately requested Dayton to contact me and do the repair at no cost. South Shore Ford did not have to do that, but because I shopped locally, I got taken care of locally without having to go off the hill. We may pay a little more up here for certain items, but service is, and will always be, the deciding factor. South Shore Motors went out of their way to provide me with excellent customer relations and service.

All the business owners in Tahoe should take a lesson from this – local service sells above all. Thank you Dayton and Zach.
