Many helped with Young Americans

To the editor:

With the workshops over and the Young Americans moved on to the next town, I would like to express my sincerest appreciation to all those people who gave of themselves and their businesses to make those three days so successful. I would also like to thank the following people:

Marcia Sarosik for calling me at 7 a.m. one morning and saying we can do this. Without you I know we would have missed this opportunity to touch so many kids. Thank you for making all those phone calls, letters and personal contacts. You spent so much time that I know you didn’t have, but gave anyway. I owe you big time.

Penny Stewart for being very calm and for all the countless hours you gave me. From counting pizza slices and chicken dinners to replacement parts of JT’s broken drum. You did it all – wow.

Tiffany Rae Davis, The Young Americans think you are the food goddess and I know it. I gave you the job of feeding 47 Young Americans for four days and I would never have expected how well you took care of them. I thank you and The Young Americans thank you.

Sue Davis, making the programs at practically the last minute was next to impossible, but not for you. You did it so well, thank you so much.

Michelle Williams, I can’t believe you had 10 days to handle feeding 180 people for two days and you had a vacation to take in that time and you did it. You are amazing. Thanks.

Ashley’s Grandma Barbara, Mom, thank you for holding down the fort at my house and all the meals you prepared for the Young Americans. I couldn’t have done it without you.

Carry Loomis, you were always there to take care of the little things that came up and I really never had to ask, you just knew. You were such a very big help. Thank you.

Paul Hale, who called me and said, “I know you are going to need it, so I got you a rental house that can sleep 10 and I will fill it with food.” I couldn’t believe someone who didn’t even know me would do that. That was so nice of you.

And thank you to those who opened their homes to the Young Americans for three days: Paul and Debby Kushner, Bob and Sherri Lindner, Mark and Rhonda Dobson, Tammy and Roger Miller, Marcia and Dennis Sarosik, Pat, Allison and Adam Kern, and the Costella family of Carson City.

And finally, thank you to all 167 kids who participated. You were awesome.

CPR training was appreciated

To the editor:

The sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade special education classes at South Tahoe Middle School would like to thank Karl Keoppen for organizing and taking the time out of his day to teach many of our students CPR.

This provided an opportunity for several students to complete a required project for science. They are very proud of their new certification. We would also like to thank Danny Sullivan and Brian Lowe for coming in to help. These firefighters were very patient and kind with our students who have various special needs. Thank you again.
