Kudos & Kindness

To the editor:

A month ago, a little boy born in our community complained of a horrible headache and was airlifted from a family camping trip in Strawberry to Children’s Hospital in Madera, where he underwent emergency surgery for a brain tumor. Today, he is home, with quite the tale to tell and a huge scar to show.

In between, this community showered Dawson Cloutier, age 7, and his family (mom Linda, dad Keith and little brother Connor) with thoughts, prayers and monetary donations. I know Keith and Linda are eternally grateful, but so am I. I have been blown away by the checks that have come through my office on Dawson’s behalf, checks that were sent by people I don’t even know after a small article appeared in this paper.

We all bemoan the changing face of South Lake Tahoe, with mass exodus to less expensive pastures, closure of schools and more empty-half-the-year second homes, but I will tell you the South Shore community is alive and well – and just as generous and caring as ever.

Thank you for reaching out to a young boy and his family – and reminding a semi-burned-out doctor just why she lives and works here.
