Relay brought us closer to a cure

If you know me, you know I’m a talker. South Lake Tahoe’s first American Cancer Society “Relay for Life” was an overwhelming success. Each one of us has our own personal reasons to Relay, whether it be a family member, friend or even ourselves who has been diagnosed with cancer. But, because of you, lives are saved, lives are changed.

We walked. We remembered. We celebrated. And we raised more than $112,000 with more donations coming in daily to support the battle to find that elusive cure.

We had an incredibly successful first-year event. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you to survivors, team captains, team members, the leadership committee, entertainers, countless businesses, organizations, the media, individuals and so many, many more. You made it all possible. You are truly a part of the Relay For Life phenomenon.

CANCER – this six-letter word brings such fear and heartache to so many. Relay for Life helps accelerate the American Cancer Society’s advancement toward a future where cancer doesn’t take the lives of our friends and family.

Everyone who attended our Relay – you experienced Relay for Life and that is what it is all about – it’s for you to live and continue to experience life to the fullest with the hope that soon life will be cancer free.

Thank you, South Lake Tahoe.

Recovery center says ‘thank you’

Sierra Recovery Center would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club for its generous donation.

The children living in the Women with Children Transitional Home will benefit from their generosity at a time when some would otherwise go without.

We would also like to thank Richard Costa for the donation of twin beds and lamps. This donation will greatly help our residential and transitional facilities when we are in need of more beds to house extra clients.

The support of the South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club and Richard Costa is invaluable for a nonprofit agency in our small community.
