Kudos & Kindness
Many helped make fundraiser a success
The Meyers Community Get-together was a huge success. More than $17,000 was raised with more still coming in. We could not have done this without the community coming together the way they did. Billy and Barbara Ramsey donated the use of their restaurant parking lot along with a lot of behind the scenes work.
Getaway Café, Bob Dog’s Pizza and El Papagayo Grill all kicked in with food, goodies and volunteers. Sani Hut donated the toilets, Kiwanis, Ron Weibel and K & K Services did all the cooking and we had enough food and drinks for more than 1,200 people. Ernie’s, Bert’s, Meyers Chevron, Lira’s and both Meeks had our Red Buckets collecting donations as well as Restaurant Row in Meyer’s.
The Cash Only band provided the music and Heather and Milan gave us a fantastic rendition of Aretha Franklin’s R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Thanks to The Tahoe Daily Tribune, KOZZ Radio, KTHX Radio and The Entertainer for the ads and on-air plugs. Out-of-area donations were a big surprise like 1K from the Hillcrest Class of ’66 from Billy’s old Redneck stomping grounds in the great state of Tennessee, Silverstate Roofing of NV and 300 Teddy bears from Marcie Cox of El Dorado Hills and others that are still coming in. We even had several vendors donating items like Bonnie MacRae with those great T-shirts, lotions and creams from Shannon’s Day Spa and the Red Cross with water and bags of essential items.
To all the volunteers who worked that day, thank you. A special thanks to Jim Lira of Lira’s Market, without you this could not have happened, you truly are a vital member of this community. Thank you, Lake Tahoe.
