Kudos & Kindness
Vocalist Anna Helwing presented a superb recital at Valhalla Boathouse Theater on Aug. 28. Anna’s program was rich and varied, covering various styles including sacred pieces, opera arias, art songs and numbers from musical theater.
Although she sang in seven different languages, Anna could render ideally the character and emotions of each piece with her subtle and bright soprano voice, so the audience could understand textual meaning, without even reading the translations provided in her program notes.
Anna Helwing is to be commended for her progress in the masters of music in vocal performance at the University of Nevada, Reno, and her fine vocal teacher and adviser, Dr. Katherine DeBoer, is to be congratulated.
The community of South Lake Tahoe is fortunate to have such a talented musician in its midst. Anna continues to contribute her skills to churches as an organist/accompanist, to Lake Tahoe Community College as a music instructor, and as a private piano teacher. Congratulations, Anna.

Clean Tahoe appreciates the community’s support
The Clean Tahoe Program has been working to keep our city and county clean since 1988. This program is funded by you, the community. We have worked eight hours a day, six days a week, completing our mission of maintaining and enhancing the visual quality of the South Shore of Lake Tahoe.
As our fiscal year came to a close Sept. 30, the statistics show the program has exceeded previous years in the amount of trash picked up by dumping 46 tons of trash as well as four tons of bulk items. Bulk items include 151 mattresses, 141 pieces of furniture, 51 appliances, 14 refrigerators, 13 tires and 58 televisions. The Clean Tahoe board of directors as well as program staff consisting of two field workers, a part-time program assistant and myself, program manager, would like to thank the community for its continued support.
