Bingo night helps support school trip
Thanks to Kiwanis of Tahoe Sierra for organizing its annual Bingo night at the Lake Tahoe Recreation Center. All of the proceeds went to our Sutter’s Fort Environmental Living Program. I also want to thank all of the people who participated in Bingo night. It was a huge success and fun was had by all. On June 2 and 3, my fourth-grade class will participate in the Environmental Living Program at Sutter’s Fort in Sacramento. This is an authentic learning experience where students spend two days living and working the way California pioneers did in 1846 during the time of the Bear Flag Revolt. This is our 23rd year to Sutter’s Fort. This valuable experience would not be possible without all of the support in this community.
Kirkwood partners with B&B
By sponsoring an “Adopt A Day of Nourishment” on March 23, Kirkwood Mountain Resort partnered with Bread & Broth to feed more than 90 community members at Saint Theresa Church Grace Hall. “I love our community and love to help in any way,” said Sean Groover, Kirkwood’s warehouse manager. “Kirkwood is happy to be a part of this event and this community.”
Also helping at the dinner were fellow Kirkwood Mountain Resort team members Scarlett Mellin, director mountain dining; Kristen Gregg, Kirkwood Inn manager; Jason Bucholz, executive chef and Tara Gonyer, General Store manager. Upon arrival at 3 p.m., the Kirkwood volunteer crew jumped right in to help the B&B volunteers pack the giveaway bags with fruit, dairy products, canned goods and bread products. From there, they manned the serving line for spaghetti dinner firsts, seconds and to-goes, and at the end of the event, cleaned and put away tables and chairs.
By Adopting A Day, not only do our sponsors donate $250 to cover all the costs of the evening meal, B&B encourages our sponsors to become involved with their sponsorship by helping with most aspects of the dinner. “This was a great time. It felt good to help,” Bucholz said. Helping others who are dealing with difficult life situations and struggling with hunger is an experience that raises awareness and improves the lives of others. Thanks to Kirkwood Mountain Resort and its employees for their service to the community.
