Students from South Tahoe High and Middle schools, from left, Matthew Marsh, Michael Wright, Alyssa Mlynski, Kyle Garrett and Kyle Dupree, along with Dillon Mlynski, in front, collected $347.18 in cash donations and 596 food items during a food drive for Christmas Cheer at Raley's at the "Y."

To the editor:

Last weekend, students from South Tahoe High and Middle schools spent their free time at Raley’s Supermarket at the “Y” doing community service. Under the direction of Catherine Wright and manager Bob Learn, six students collected 20 boxes of nonperishable foods and cash donations for Christmas Cheer All Year emergency food pantry.

Heartfelt thanks to Michael Wright, Matthew Marsh, Kyle Garrett, Kyle Dupree, Alyssa Mlynski and Dillon Mlynski. Their hard work helped the needy families of Tahoe to a better meal, and every donation is appreciated.

Christmas Cheer is preparing for the annual distribution of Christmas dinner food baskets and toys for the children. Everyone who contributed at Raley’s has added an important contribution. Christmas Cheer thanks the people of Tahoe for their always generous response to need.

LTCC opens ESL center

To the editor:

On Oct. 28, Lake Tahoe Community College celebrated the grand opening of the new English as a Second Language Center. The closing of Al Tahoe Elementary School opened the door to a new location for those who attend the non-credit classes to improve their English skills. College faculty, board members and other dignitaries, community members and the Chamber of Commerce ambassadors joined the ESL students and faculty in the celebration.

Lake Tahoe Community College would like to express its gratitude to the many members of the college staff who offered their time and skills – Tom Alibrandi, Colleen Sullivan, and America Ramirez from the ESL Department to Pam Ross-Osinski from the Chamber of Commerce for organizing the ribbon- cutting ceremony, Sher Eymann from Tahoe Main Events for the fabulous balloon arrangement, Andres Gonzales and Mayra Gonzales from La Voz Hispana who covered the event for the Hispanic community, Dr. Guy Lease, Lori Gaskin, Diane Rosner, Susan Middleton and board member Roberta Mason.

Bake sale items are appreciated

To the editor:

I would like to say a big thank you to Albertsons, Raley’s and Safeway for their generous donation of bakery items for my recent bake sale to benefit La Leche League of South Lake Tahoe.

The money we raised at the bake sale will allow us to purchase books for our library, pay postage costs and provide informational sheets to breastfeeding mothers. Your support of our group is greatly appreciated.
