Kudos & Kindness

To the editor:

This poem was published in a poetry compilation in 2001 titled “Leaves of Gold.” I also received a nomination for Poet of the Year in 2002 by the International Poets Society for “The Christmas Spirit.” I would like to share this poem with the community of South Lake Tahoe as a special thank-you for allowing me to help decorate the town on my 30th anniversary of holiday window painting at Lake Tahoe. Thank you all and may the Christmas spirit fill your hearts with the joy of the season, especially those who have sacrificed to keep us free.

“The Christmas spirit is not what you think.

It’s not in the packages, it’s not in the drink.

It’s not in the headlines like nuclear war.

It’s not in the ball game but who’s keeping score.

The Christmas spirit’s in a child’s eyes

and stories of Jesus that mesmerize.

It’s the light that twinkles in every man’s soul.

It’s the bliss that you feel when you’re spiritually whole.

Yes, loving and giving is part of it, too.

For God loves his children, especially you!

So, laugh and be happy and full of good cheer,

for this special season is Christ’s time of year.”

Community’s support thanked

To the editor:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for the outpouring of love and support you have given us this past year, since the tragic, but heroic passing of our beloved father and husband, Phillip Smith.

Words can’t describe how grateful we are for all the time, encouragement and help you have shown us during this difficult time. We feel so fortunate and blessed to live at Lake Tahoe and count you as our friends.

May you have a wonderful, joyous holiday season.

Performance for kids appreciated

To the editor:

The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe received a special surprise Dec. 15 when Sunny from the High Sierra Christmas Show at Harrah’s visited the children and put on an interactive mini-show for the kids. Sunny conveyed the charm of a seasoned performer, the evident love for children and the warmth of Mrs. Claus to the stage of the Al Tahoe site.

The children obviously were enamored by her. She has a beautiful voice and an excellent way with an audience. She brightened our day and we greatly appreciate her performance at the club.

TAP appreciates association’s help

To the editor:

On behalf of the board of directors of Tahoe Arts Project, I would like to express my gratitude to the Lake Tahoe Wedding and Honeymoon Association for hosting our season opening reception. Members of the association donated food, beverages, auction items and a venue for this event.

Our appreciation goes out to Fran and Leona Lennon of Mulligan’s Irish Pub and Restaurant for providing their restaurant and the delicious food. Thank you to The Ridge Tahoe, Embassy Suites Resort and Harrah’s/Harveys for donating beverages for our guests to enjoy. We were very fortunate to be entertained by the South Tahoe High School Jazz Combo. Thanks to JJ Clause and her students for the great music. Thank you to Teri Sweeny for all her hard work to make this evening so enjoyable. Many members of the association donated silent auction items to help raise money for Tahoe Arts Project. Women’s Center thanks St. Theresa

To the editor:

South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center would like to thank St. Theresa Catholic Church and the many generous parishioners for their continued support of individuals in need in our community.

St. Theresa frequently assists with gas vouchers, food and funds to help Women’s Center clients escape unsafe situations. The Women’s Center greatly appreciates St. Theresa’s proactive work to improve the physical and emotional well-being of individuals and families in our community.

South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center would also like to thank everyone who made Thanksgiving donations. Caesars provided 71 turkeys and Unity at the Lake donated four generous gift certificates to Raley’s.

In addition, individuals in the community donated another 19 turkeys. Through their thoughtful and generous assistance more than 90 families in our community enjoyed bountiful holiday meals.
