Kudos & Kindness

To the editor:

Northstar-at-Tahoe held a very successful inaugural Jib for Kids fund-raiser event Dec. 19, which raised $200 and collected 70 coats for the Reno chapter of the national Coats for Kids program.

Northstar would like to thank all those who participated in the event as well as its park and pipe crew for setting up the features for the event and making sure everything ran smoothly.

Congratulations to Destinee Perata, first-place winner in the ladies division; and Mark Lehner, first-place snowboard winner as well as first-place winner in the ski division.

A big thank you also goes out to the event sponsors including Smith Goggles, Santa Cruz and Line Skis.

Douglas County thanks Santas

Kahle Community Center would like to extend a thank you to Rich Nalder, Todd Moss, Chuck Pratt, Van Ogami, Chris Kynett and Don Stedman of Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, Station 3.

Their contribution in serving up pancakes and bacon to the community with our annual “Breakfast with Santa” on Dec. 11 is deeply apprec-iated.

A special thank you to Travis Lee, who skillfully and endearingly encouraged children’s smiles with his interpretation of Santa.

Thank you to Rob Klopp, Patrick Stackpole and Doug Robertson for their spirited portrayal of Santa for our annual “North Pole Calling” event that took place Dec. 14.

Sierra-at-Tahoe supports kids

To the editor:

Thank you John Rice and Sierra-at-Tahoe for rewarding my “straight A” year with a season pass. I love skiing at Sierra-at-Tahoe with all my friends and family. Sierra-at-Tahoe is my favorite ski resort.

Thanks for all you do to support the kids at South Lake Tahoe. Sierra rocks! See you on the slopes.

Cider donation is appreciated

To the editor:

As a volunteer for the Senior Nutrition “meals on wheels” program, I would like to express heartfelt thanks to the management of the Bijou Safeway for their generous gift.

On Dec. 17 I walked into their store unannounced to inquire about a donation of several bottles of sparkling cider to include with that day’s meal distribution. Without hesitation management exceeded my request by contributing two cases of Martinelli’s sparking cider.

The seniors involved in this program are wonderful people who have spent their lives contributing to society and, yet, expect very little in return. To see the joy and appreciation expressed when presented with what most of us would view as a small gift was magical. It embodied the true spirit of the season of a community that cares.

Thanks again to the fine staff at Bijou Safeway for their gesture of kindness and goodwill.

Awards dinner honored athletes

To the editor:

We would like to thank all the local businesses who donated goods and services for the South Tahoe High School Boys Soccer Program awards dinner.

We sincerely appreciate the continued community support from the Horizon Casino Resort, South Tahoe High School’s Partner in Education, and Todd Howard, Ruby Turner and Jennifer Ures; Bob Lear and Raley’s, Emerald Bay Road; and Safeway South Lake Tahoe.

The athletes were recognized for their individual seasonal performances, as was the great coaching staff. Our community should be proud of the Varsity’s strong regional and state performance and the Junior Varsity for their undefeated season.
