Kudos & Kindness: Blue Lake Aikido, Jared Manninen bring great after-school activities to PAL participants

The South Lake Tahoe Police Activities League would like to thank Blue Lake Aikido for partnering with us on teaching a six-week youth Aikido course. The Jan. 26 to March 16 training was attended by 10 sixth-graders from South Tahoe Middle School.

The youth learned the history and culture of Aikido, initiation in physical situations, balance, safe ways to fall to the ground, and the art of deflection.

PAL would also like to thank Jared Manninen for teaching an eight-week graphic novel course to eight eighth-graders.

From March 7 to May 2, South Tahoe Middle School students wrote a story line, developed sketches, refined text and graphics, and produced “Timeless,” a 16-page graphic novel.

One student’s evaluation said, “My favorite part about making a comic was the drawing part. Jared was super awesome. I think the comic turned out awesome and I definitely would liketo make another comic.” PAL extends a special thanks to the Lake Tahoe Unified School District for supplying the facilities for PAL’s eight meetings.
