Kudos & Kindness: Martin inspired community group

Provided to the Tribune Terri Martin was the reason OPEN was founded.

“Thank you” are, in Thurston Ott’s opinion, two of the best words we simple humans can say and feel.

The late Terri E. Martin taught our community how to show gratitude in 1990, when her need for a life-saving liver transplant was embraced by her neighbors, Will and Marie Cluff. Two years of fundraising and heartfelt commitment of ordinary people to save this extraordinarily brave young woman culminated in a donated private flight to a 12-hour surgery in San Francisco. Terri’s gratitude never ceased over the next 16 years and was a living testimony to the power of faith and courage.

Thank you, Terri Martin, for having the humility to ask, and to the people who were part of your journey and will never forget the bliss of giving. As OPEN’s motto says, “Together we can and do make a difference.”
