Kudos & Kindness: Thank you for help with Care Packages for Our Troops

Thank you to everyone who helped with sending Christmas Care Packages to Our Troops. We sent 90 care packages to several units and have received some thank you e-mails and letters. Thank you to Mary from the American Legion for letting us do the packaging there. She spent a lot of her quality time helping even though she had other engagements to attend.

I want to thank our comunnity for their generous donations, including some great items dropped off in the five drop-off boxes, and the annoynomous person who dropped off bags full of some great toiletries. Thank you to all the people who helped with the postage-donation money. We were short and some real special people came to our rescue.

I have received e-mails and messages from a lot of the soldiers. Josiah Barnes wrote, “Hey, Patty I wanted to thank you and everyone from Tahoe and Gardnerville and the Blue and Gold Star Moms and the American Legion for the care packages. Thanks again. -SPC Barnes and the 3rd Platoon, Apache Troop at PSS-12.”

Sammy Baker, one of Timmy’s best friends wrote “Thank you for everything and I love the special package. I will wear Timmy’s buttons on my uniform.” I sent him some of Timmy’s buttons and decal for his truck.

I would like to thank the Tahoe Daily Tribune, Carson Valley Medical Center, The Moose Lodge, Grocery Outlet and the Cancer League for letting us leave our drop off boxes at their establishments for local drop items.

Our troops are still at war and so many don’t get to be with their loved ones, and these care packages mean so much to them. Please pray for our troops and thank them everyday and please: Always support our troops and never forget our fallen heroes.

Thank you everyone. We have a very tight and caring community and I thank you so much for all of your help.

Sincerely,

Patricia (Patty) Smith

Editor’s note: the following letter was sent to Patty Smith and printed here by request.

Dear Patty Smith:

The United States coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team San Diego would like to thank you for the military care package we received for Christmas. Your generosity and kindness greatly increased the unit” morale while deployed in support of Joint Task Force Guantanamo. We appreciate that people are thinking of us during this holiday season while we are deployed overseas and separated from our families. We took your items and placed them in stockings for the entire crew. I personally saw many of their eyes light up when they saw that “Santa” had visited. Thank you for your dedication in supporting the troops deployed overseas!

Sincerely,

E.M. Cooper

Commander, MSST San Diego

United States Coast Guard

Handwritten note:

Thank you so much! Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for think of us over the holidays.
