Kudos & Kindness: Thank you Road Runner for great service, prices

I would like to extend my thanks to Mike Murphy, owner of Road Runner Gas and Liquor in Meyers. I have been a customer of Mike’s for the past three years, and have witnessed first hand the excellent customer service he and his employees extend. Over a year ago, Mike came up with the idea of a gas cap rewards program where customers can sign up for a totally secure “debit” card that is used at Road Runner. When using this card, customers save 10 cents per gallon on every gallon purchased. Swipe your card, enter your pin number and fill up. The purchase price is automatically deducted from your bank account. At first I was reluctant, thinking it would be a hassle to sign up or not safe. Mike saw how many times a week I was filling up my car with gas and finally persuaded me to sign up for the program. It was so easy, and has saved me more than $100 in the last six months.

After reading an inflamed article in the Tahoe Daily Tribune, which stated that gasoline prices in South Lake Tahoe were the highest in the nation, Mike wrote an article setting the record straight. He then changed his pricing strategy and lowered gasoline prices based on the average price in California. To top it off, he still gives rewards card members an additional 10 cents off the new price. The next time you think about driving down to Carson City to purchase gas because you think you are saving money, I encourage you to drive just four miles west to the Road Runner and support a local business owner who is doing his best to support locals.
